Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Forestry Technician specializing in Silviculture to join our team in Bloemfontein. You will assist with silvicultural treatments, tree planting, stand improvement, and forest inventories to support sustainable forest management in the Free State.

This hands-on role requires a Diploma or Certificate in Forestry or Silviculture, practical field experience, and ability to work outdoors in varied weather.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Forestry, Silviculture, or a related field.
• Proven practical forestry experience and silvicultural techniques.
• Knowledge of tree species, forest ecology, and common pests and diseases.
• Proficiency with forestry tools and basic mapping software.
• Good fitness for outdoor work and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing silvicultural treatments (reforestation, stand improvement).
• Conduct forest inventories and surveys for growth, health and timber volumes.
• Monitor forests for pests and diseases and support control measures.
• Manage tree nursery operations including seed collection and propagation.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment and supervise field crews.
