Job summary

A retail group in South Africa is seeking a Shipping Controller responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export shipping activities. You will ensure goods move efficiently across borders, while maintaining compliance with customs requirements. Candidates should have a Matric certificate, with preference given to those holding diplomas in logistics or related fields, and 3–5 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in ERP systems such as Oracle and Sage is essential.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in shipping/logistics operations, preferably in retail or FMCG.
  • Experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and handling bonded goods.

Purpose

As a Shipping Controller at Cape Union Mart, you are responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export shipping activities. This includes ensuring goods move efficiently and cost-effectively across international borders and arrive on time, in full compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring accurate documentation and tariff application
  • Managing relationships with freight service providers
  • Reconciling costings and payments
  • Keeping systems up to date
  • Supporting operational continuity through reliable inbound logistics
Qualifications
  • Required: Matric (Grade 12)
  • Preferred: Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Trade
  • Advantageous: Training in Incoterms, Customs, Import/Export Regulations
  • 3–5 years in shipping/logistics operations, preferably in retail or FMCG
  • Experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and handling bonded goods
Skills
  • SA customs regulations and international trade compliance
  • HS codes, duties, VAT implications, bonded/rebate goods processes
  • ERP and logistics systems: Oracle, TradeCloud, Sage
  • Technical Skills
