Qualifications

Purpose

As a Shipping Controller at Cape Union Mart, you are responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export shipping activities. This includes ensuring goods move efficiently and cost-effectively across international borders and arrive on time, in full compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring accurate documentation and tariff application
  • Managing relationships with freight service providers
  • Reconciling costings and payments
  • Keeping systems up to date
  • Supporting operational continuity through reliable inbound logistics
Qualification & Experience
  • Required: Matric (Grade 12)
  • Preferred: Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Trade
  • Advantageous: Training in Incoterms, Customs, Import/Export Regulations
  • 3–5 years in shipping/logistics operations, preferably in retail or FMCG
  • Experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, and handling bonded goods
Skills
  • SA customs regulations and international trade compliance
  • HS codes, duties, VAT implications, bonded/rebate goods processes
  • ERP and logistics systems: Oracle, TradeCloud, Sage
  • Technical Skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs)
  • Familiar with online logistics and SARS portals
  • Systems: Oracle, Sage, TradeCloud
