A leading safety and compliance organization in Johannesburg is looking for a candidate to create and enforce a culture of safety. This role requires developing EHS policies, conducting training, and managing compliance audits. Ideal candidates will have a relevant qualification in Chemical Engineering or Analytical Chemistry, along with 2-3 years of experience in the manufacturing industry. The position offers a full-time contract without remote options.
We are seeking a candidate to create and enforce a culture of safety within our organization and jointly implement SHEQ programs, policies, and assessments to spearhead compliance with all local and regional health and safety regulations.
They may also review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety and risk management. The candidate should have experience in laboratory testing on products and audit compliance exposure.
Conduct risk assessments, health and safety and environmental program evaluations, and audits.
Organise and direct HAZLOC studies from time to time at the unit.
Facilitate as chairperson on the Safety, Health and Environmental Committee.
Co‑coordinate internal and external EHS audits.
Co‑coordinate fire prevention program and identification of fire hazards and maintenance of fire equipment.
Conduct health and safety induction to ensure compliance with all new employees.
Coordinate and manage accident/incident investigations and risk reporting.
Provide support to the operations team regarding identification of hazards and assessment of risks in the workplace and ensure that all contractor operations are subject to a SHEQ risk assessment prior to work.
Manage COIDA incident documentation and liaison with the Department of Labour (DOL).
Conduct process investigations, find root cause of defects (perform root cause analysis of quality issues raised), and implement appropriate corrective action measures.
Test and verify products against established specifications/requirements and identify hold or reject products that do not meet the required specifications/standards.
Ensure internal customer complaints from the DCs from receipt testing through to communication of test results generation and issuing of test reports.
Report all non‑functional equipment and raise job cards.
Ensure calibration and verification of measuring equipment is performed.
Perform process‑quality auditing using a checklist at prescribed frequencies.
File all quality records for record‑keeping purposes and to ensure ease of retrieval.
Facilitate corrective action process to ensure actions are followed up in a timely manner.
Update weekly quality scorecard and report.
Assist with maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality System and assist with writing work instructions (SOPs), improving troubleshooting documents and participating during company system audits.
Maintain housekeeping especially in the laboratory (area of responsibility) and assist with implementation and maintenance of the 5S program.
Participate in departmental and other meetings as required and provide regular feedback and updates on any production/process related issues.
Communicate with the department manager on issues of importance and provide up‑to‑date information on the progress of ongoing activities and projects.
Grade 12
Relevant qualification in Chemical Engineering / Analytical Chemistry / Quality or Production related qualifications.
2–3 years experience within the manufacturing industry.
Knowledge and understanding of Six Sigma continuous improvement initiatives, PPE, lock‑out/tag‑out, LEAN manufacturing, machine guarding, forklift, hazard communication, and incident management (advantage).
