Position
The SHEQ Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's Integrated Management System (IMS) in line with ISO standards and other industry‑specific requirements such as valve manufacturing standards, foundry quality standards, and client specifications. The role ensures that all products meet regulatory, contractual and customer requirements while promoting continuous improvement across the organisation.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards and valve manufacturing standards
- Expertise in quality assurance, inspection techniques and NDT methods
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills – root cause analysis, CAPA
- Strong leadership and communication abilities
- Proficiency in quality tools (FMEA, SPC, Six Sigma, Lean)
- High attention to detail, proactive and hands‑on approach
Key Deliverables
- Maintain ISO certification and evidence of compliance
- Implement inspection and testing of valves against specifications
- Reduce rework and scrap rates
- Timely closure of non‑conformances and customer complaints
- Conduct regular training and awareness programs
- Implement and track continuous improvement projects
Responsibilities
- Establish, implement and maintain the QMS in line with ISO and local industry regulations
- Develop, review and update quality manuals, policies and procedures; ensure documentation control, process mapping and compliance tracking
- Lead internal and external audits (certification audits, customer audits, supplier audits)
- Prepare management review reports and ensure compliance with audit findings
- Conduct risk assessments and introduce mitigation plans
- Oversee quality inspections of raw materials, castings, machining and final assembly; ensure valves comply with technical drawings, specifications, and pressure‑testing standards
- Implement and monitor testing procedures including hydrostatic testing, NDT and performance verification; manage calibration and maintenance of measuring equipment
- Approve final product release before dispatch
- Develop and implement supplier quality assurance processes; conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company and client standards
- Work closely with procurement to qualify new suppliers and monitor supplier performance; address non‑conformances and track resolution
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all quality‑related customer matters; ensure compliance with Eskom, Rand Water, Umgeni Water and other SOE technical requirements
- Prepare quality documentation for tenders, contracts and project submissions; handle customer complaints and conduct root cause analysis, CAPA
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations affecting product quality
- Develop and lead quality improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes using lean, Six Sigma or other methodologies to reduce defects and improve efficiency
- Conduct training and awareness sessions for staff on quality standards and processes; promote a culture of quality ownership throughout the business
- Lead and manage the quality control and assurance team; set departmental KPIs aligned with organisational objectives
- Report monthly on quality metrics (defect rates, rework, customer complaints, audit findings, supplier performance)
- Provide strategic input to management on risks, opportunities and improvements in the quality domain
