Job summary

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification required.
• Relevant business degree is desirable.
• 3–5 years underwriting experience is essential.
• Experience in financial services is desirable.
• Knowledge of applicable products, systems, processes and legislation.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and evaluate insurance applications against set criteria to determine client risk.
• Contact stakeholders, including medical personnel, to obtain information relevant to applications.
• Make recommendations to approve or reject applications based on criteria.
• Maintain detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made in line with policies and legislation.
• Escalate applications when risk is uncertain or approval/rejection is unclear.
• Maintain service levels to ensure timely processing of applications.
• Provide authoritative advice to clients and stakeholders and build relationships.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in processes.
