Job summary

FNB in Johannesburg is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to lead the medical underwriting team and help shape the company's underwriting philosophy. You will provide leadership, training, mentoring and coaching to drive performance within FR Life Assurance.

The role includes research on market conditions, making informed recommendations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks while supporting CEO-facing initiatives and complex underwriting challenges.

Qualifications

• Experience leading underwriting teams and ensuring goals and standards.
• Knowledge of medical underwriting processes and risk assessment.
• Ability to translate underwriting philosophy into practice.

Responsibilities

• Review and ratification of underwriting processes to the Underwriting Management Team.
• Maintain and govern underwriting processes for the Underwriting Department.
• Research and maintain awareness of market conditions, making appropriate recommendations.
• Reportings, auditing as well as the wider Underwriting Department.
• Assessment of medical, financial & occupational underwriting risk.
• Onboarding, training, mentoring & coaching of underwriters.
• Providing input to Lead underwriting on Ombudsman cases, CEO and media complaints.
