Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, IT, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in network security, esp. in telecommunications.
• Expertise in securing IP networks, MPLS, 4G/5G telecom infra.
• Hands-on with Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet, Splunk.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, telecom security guidelines.
• Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, CCSP) desirable.

Responsibilities

Our client, a significant telecommunications provider operating in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, is seeking to hire a highly skilled Senior Telecoms Network Security Specialist. This critical role is responsible for safeguarding the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the company's network infrastructure and sensitive data. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in network security principles, threat detection, incident response, and security architecture within the telecommunications domain. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing security solutions that protect against evolving cyber threats. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage advanced security solutions, including firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and SIEM platforms.
• Monitor network traffic and security logs for suspicious activities, and conduct thorough investigations into security incidents.
• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and standards in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify and remediate security weaknesses.
• Collaborate with network engineering and IT operations teams to ensure security is integrated into all aspects of network design and deployment.
• Develop and deliver security awareness training to employees.
• Lead incident response efforts, including containment, eradication, and recovery from security breaches.
• Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies, and provide recommendations for enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in network security, with a strong focus on telecommunications environments.
• Proven expertise in securing IP networks, MPLS, cellular technologies (4G/5G), and associated infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with leading security technologies (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet, Splunk).
• In-depth knowledge of security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and relevant telecommunications security guidelines.
• Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP are highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be willing and able to work from our offices located in Mossel Bay, Western Cape.
