Senior Technical Business Analyst required inCape Town.

PBT Group has an opportunity for a Senior Technical Business Analyst with a strong background in financial services, reinsurance, or other complex transactional environments.

This role is ideal for a seasoned professional (10+ years’ experience) who thrives in large-scale data-driven projects, enjoys solving intricate business problems, and brings both analytical and systems-thinking capabilities to modern, digital transformation initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and translating business needs into structured solutions, bridging the gap between business and technical teams, and ensuring successful delivery of system enhancements, integrations, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with business stakeholders to identify challenges, opportunities, and improvement areas.
  • Analyse, document, and validate business and functional requirements across multiple value streams.
  • Model business processes and define data requirements to support reporting and analytics.
  • Conceptualize solutions and develop comprehensive business cases aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Participate in project lifecycle activities including QA, UAT, and solution validation.
  • Support system enhancements, integrations, and incident analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with delivery teams — including project management, development, testing, and change management — to ensure end-to-end alignment.
  • Support digital and automation initiatives by integrating data, workflow, and reporting solutions.
  • Stay current with business analysis, reinsurance, and data management best practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science, Informatics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Business Analysis certification (FTI or similar).
  • 10+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst within financial services or large transactional systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL (read and execute queries).
  • Strong data analysis and visualization background with Excel (Advanced Power Query) and Power BI.
  • Demonstrated experience in data transformation, modelling, and report/dashboard design.
  • Solid working knowledge of UML, BPMN, and Enterprise Architect or other case tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience in the full SDLC, including backlog management, sprint planning, and user story creation.
  • Proven experience facilitating workshops, eliciting requirements, and communicating across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Exposure to Large Language Models (CoPilot or similar) and data-driven automation initiatives is advantageous.

Desirable Experience:

  • Strong understanding of financial, insurance, or reinsurance systems.
  • Experience defining data and analytics requirements for claims or transactional processes.
  • Exposure to customer journey mapping, user impact analysis, or process optimisation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience in system modernization or cloud migration projects.
