We are looking to recruit a Senior Professional Structural Engineer to fulfil the role of Technical Lead in MCF & Industry in South Africa teams which are looking to expand and develop its South Africa based Structural Engineering team to assist with our growing workload.
Desired Qualifications and Professional Registration
- BEng / MEng in Civil / Structural Engineering
- At least 15 years of relevant working experience in buildings structural engineering design and supervision in a consulting engineering environment
- Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng is required
- Knowledge of BIM processes (ISO 19650) and implementation
- Some experience of Common Data Environment platforms such as Asite, ACC or BIM
- Proficient in relevant software tools, including Revit, Revizto and structural / civil software such as Prokon, TEKLA, Autodesk Robot
- Good knowledge of standard practices in the design and construction industry, local and international design codes
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to the South Africa Structural Engineering team, reporting to the Associate Director / Director
- Provide technical leadership on projects, mentoring and coaching design engineers or technologists
- Manage and deliver the structural work packages and drive discipline quality assurance/control in multiple projects
- People and resourcing management of the structures team
- Business development support, including technical input into bids and proposals
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with global partners (Netherlands, Germany & United Kingdom)
- Support global partners on MCF & Industry projects and assist Water, Smart Mobility & Aviation Advisory Groups with a range of projects
- Further develop technical standards, libraries, templates, processes, etc.
- Drive quality and efficiency improvements across the team
- Prepare designs for and associated structures from initial concepts through to detailed designs, ensuring compliance with necessary building codes and standards (foundations, structural steel, concrete and other elements)
- Collaborate closely with other discipline teams (mechanical, electrical, architects, project managers) to coordinate and integrate engineering aspects into the overall design
- Provide technical expertise in civil and structural engineering to project stakeholders
- Ensure all project milestones are met on time and within budget, managing schedule, budget and resources
- Produce design calculations using 3D modelling software and review calculations produced by others
- Produce sketch drawings/details for drawing/modelling by others and complete checking and review prior to issue
- Prepare specifications and assist with contract documents
- Conduct inspections and surveys, prepare reports, structural analysis and reporting
- Ensure the structural teams contribute to the achievement of project goals
- Communicate the status of projects to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad‑hoc and formal basis
- Manage the structures team's project quality, schedule, budget and resources
