Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join a nationally focused team on a remote-first basis. The role requires leading design, analysis, and management of complex stormwater systems for urban development nationwide, with opportunity to mentor others and drive project success.

The ideal candidate has at least 7 years in stormwater engineering, familiarity with HEC-RAS/SWMM/InfoWorks ICM, and strong GIS experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in stormwater engineering.
• Proficiency in stormwater modeling software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, or similar.
• Experience with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for remote collaboration.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of stormwater management systems for various projects.
• Conduct detailed hydrological and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software.
• Develop comprehensive stormwater master plans and drainage strategies.
• Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African legislation and design standards.
• Collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders through virtual platforms.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance remotely.
• Stay updated on best practices and emerging technologies in stormwater management and SUDS.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals and business development efforts.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for assigned stormwater components.

About the Role

Our client, a national engineering consultancy, is expanding its capabilities and seeking a talented Senior Stormwater Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis. While based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, this role operates on a remote-first model, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and management of complex stormwater systems for urban development and infrastructure projects across the country. This includes flood modeling, drainage design, and the integration of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS). The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with project teams across different locations. Requirements

• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is preferred.
• Proficiency in stormwater modeling software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, or similar.
• Strong understanding of hydrological principles, hydraulic design, and urban drainage.
• Experience with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for remote collaboration.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
