This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned retail professional with a proven record of driving store performance, developing strong business relationships, and ensuring long-term retailer profitability and sustainability. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of Retail Operations Managers, ensuring alignment with group objectives and enhancing retail performance across the division.
Purpose of the position
The purpose of this position is to ensure profitable and sustainable independent retail operations through effective leadership, financial oversight, and strategic business support — driving increased sales and improved performance across the retail network.
Key Performance Areas
- Compile, implement, and manage divisional budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Review financial performance against targets and implement group strategies and core concepts at retail level.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of Retail Operations Managers.
- Add measurable value to independent retailers through sound business advice and performance management.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance retailer relationships to promote long-term sustainability.
- Identify and manage poor-performing stores, implementing corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with internal support teams (Store Development, HR, Finance, Logistics, and Merchandising) to ensure comprehensive retailer support.
- Drive sales growth and profitability across existing stores and within the distribution network.
- Conduct feasibility studies and assist with new store developments or refurbishments.
- Promote the brand's image and success by working closely with the Store Development and Retail Support teams.
- Provide retail advisory services to assist retailers in achieving operational, financial, and customer service excellence.
- Ensure profitability and sustainable growth at both Distribution Centre (DC) and retail levels.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 Senior Certificate — Mandatory
- Business Management Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years' retail management experience at Store Manager, Retail Operations Manager, or DC level
- Proven understanding of retail business operations, including finance, merchandising, and logistics
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively
- Strong financial and business acumen with a deep understanding of store operations
- Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills
- Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and influence stakeholders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including public speaking
- High level of computer literacy (MS Office and retail management systems)
- Attention to detail, quality orientation, and sound decision-making ability
- Strong business insight with the ability to translate strategy into actionable retail execution
- Commitment to retailer development and continuous improvement
- Commercially minded with a focus on results and sustainability

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Leading a store team to meet business KPIs including driving sales, cost control, mitigating risks and stock loss, administration and ensuring world class store standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
