Job Description
Red Ember Recruitment is seeking a Senior Sales Representative on behalf of our client.
Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Engagement (80%)
- Deliver exceptional in-store and online sales experiences, focusing on Reloading machines, accessories, components, firearms, ammunition, optics and other accessories.
- Identify customer needs and recommend complete reloading solutions, including presses, calibres, and consumables.
- Achieve monthly and annual sales targets for reloading machines and related product lines.
- Upsell all available stock items, source sales through out-of-the-box thinking, and capitalize on existing client bases to ensure target delivery.
- Handle quotations, special orders, and client relations to ensure effective service delivery, maintaining proven contact with clients to source products if there is no stock in store.
- Provide in-person and telephonic technical sales advice to existing and prospective clients.
- Follow up with prospective customers, qualify leads, and book appointments or range demonstrations as required.
Technical Support & Product Expertise (10%)
- Technical advice and guidance on reloading machines, equipment and accessories to clients as well as firearm and training related queries.
- Demonstrate setup, operation, and maintenance procedures on display / demo machines.
- Assist customers in troubleshooting mechanical issues or recommending spare parts and upgrades.
- Maintain current knowledge on firearms, reloading equipment and competitor products.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers on technical queries or warranty claims.
- Support internal training of junior sales staff and assist with product knowledge sessions.
Compliance & Documentation (2.5%)
- Ensure all reloading component (primers, powder), firearms and ammunition sales comply with the Firearms Control Act and Explosives Act.
- Verify licensing, competency, and ID documentation as required by legislation and company policy.
- Maintain accurate transaction records and ensure controlled goods are logged and stored appropriately.
- Ensure that all internal processes and systems are followed, updated and maintained.
Customer Relationship Management (2.5%)
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with reloading enthusiasts, sport shooters, active shooters and collectors.
- Maintain a CRM database of customers, track sales follow-ups, and record service interactions.
- Follow up on quotes, service queries, and product support requests.
- Assist with after-sales support and build loyalty through consistent communication.
Merchandising & Inventory (2.5%)
- Actively merchandise and ensure stock presentation for the shop.
- Monitor stock levels, report shortages, and recommend reorders based on demand patterns.
- Ensuring all demo machines are operational and clean.
Training, Marketing & Events (2.5%)
- Participate in and assist with reloading workshops, demonstrations, or open days.
- Represent the brand at trade shows, club events, and promotional activities when required.
- Assist marketing with content creation (videos, articles, or posts) on reloading products and techniques.
- Train junior staff on reloading fundamentals, Dillon setup, and safe handling procedures.
Requirements
- Matric (National Senior Certificate) or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of retail sales experience in the firearms, reloading, or related technical equipment sector.
- Valid South African ID and Competency to trade in firearms and ammunition.
- Good working knowledge of Reloading Equipment, firearms, ammunition and other related products in the industry.
- Fluent in English, other languages will be beneficial.
- Desirable - Tertiary qualification - Experience in competitive sports shooting, reloading.
- Knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 60) Explosives Act, and NCACC regulations.
- Familiarity with POS and CRM systems.
- Technical / mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment issues.
Skills & Competencies
Sales & Customer Service: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills. Consultative sales style; ability to understand technical needs and match to product solutions. Consistent track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of reloading equipment, accessories, firearms and other related products. Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and resolving product issues. Ability to teach and demonstrate safe reloading principles and firearm practices.
Compliance & Administration: High attention to detail in documentation and regulatory compliance. Familiarity with firearm and component handling protocols.
Personal Attributes
Professional, ethical, and safety-conscious. Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills. Patient and approachable when dealing with novice reloaders or customers needing guidance. Team player who leads by example.
Legal & Safety Requirements
Must comply with all firearms and ammunition legislation in South Africa. Employees may be subject to background and security clearance checks. Must follow company firearm and ammunition handling policies always. Competency certificate and competency to trade required.
Working Conditions
Primarily in-store environment with occasional travel for client visits, supplier meetings, or events. May involve lifting moderately heavy equipment or boxes of components. Weekend and public holiday work may be required during events or promotions.
