Job description
Senior Sales Engineer (Filtration / Mining) – Gauteng.

This role is for an experienced process filtration engineer who understands mining operations and enjoys working close to customers. You will be responsible for providing technical filtration solutions while growing business across South Africa and selected African markets.

The position combines hands‑on engineering, technical sales, and regional market development. You will work with mining houses, EPCM partners, and distributors, supporting both filtration consumables and large capital equipment from design stage through to commissioning and long‑term performance improvement.

This role will suit someone who already has solid filtration experience, is comfortable working across borders, and can communicate clearly with clients in demanding industrial environments.

Salary: R50k – R55k p/m Basic salary (negotiable) + Commission & Benefits.

Area: South Africa, with regular travel across Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process Filtration Engineering
    • Evaluate, design, and improve solid-liquid separation processes in mining and heavy industry
    • Conduct site inspections, process audits, troubleshooting, and performance testing
    • Develop process flow diagrams, mass balances, and technical specifications
    • Support the introduction of new filtration technologies, media, and process changes
  • Technical Sales and Equipment Support
    • Provide technical guidance on filtration consumables such as filter cloths, plates, elements, dust filter bags, and cathode bags
    • Sell and support capital filtration equipment including filter presses, horizontal vacuum belt filters, drum filters, and disc filters
    • Assist with equipment selection, specification, installation, and commissioning
    • Work with internal teams to customise solutions to client requirements
  • Project and Client Management
    • Work closely with EPCM companies and mining houses during feasibility, design, and execution phases
    • Prepare and present technical proposals, tenders, and solution justifications
    • Manage pilot trials and on-site testing
    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key mining clients
  • Sales and Market Development
    • Grow business across South Africa and African export markets
    • Identify new market opportunities, distributors, agents, and technical partners
    • Support partner training and ensure correct technical and product positioning
    • Identify opportunities for cross‑selling and upselling during customer visits
    • Track sales performance, prepare forecasts, and meet agreed targets
  • Export and Regional Support
    • Coordinate with logistics teams to support export compliance and customs requirements
    • Monitor delivery timelines aligned with fabrication schedules
    • Resolve export-related issues and maintain strong regional relationships

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree is essential
  • Proven experience in process filtration within mining or heavy industry is essential
  • Hands‑on experience with filtration systems, consumables, and capital equipment
  • Proven experience working with EPCM companies and mining houses
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in technical sales within mining, industrial, or export markets
  • Experience developing business and closing deals in African markets
  • Dust filtration experience is essential; wet filtration experience is advantageous

Technical and Commercial Skills:

  • Strong understanding of solid‑liquid separation processes
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Sound financial understanding of costing and calculations
  • Computer literacy including MS Office and accounting or ERP systems
  • Ability to prepare accurate quotations and technical proposals

Languages and Mobility:

  • Fluency in English and French is essential
  • Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle
  • Willing and physically able to travel extensively across Africa

Legal and Compliance:

  • Valid work authorisation for South Africa is required
  • Candidates must already have the correct documentation, as visa sponsorship is not available
  • Clear criminal and credit record
