Senior Project Manager
AltGen is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join a leading renewable energy company based in Stellenbosch.
The role will lead the delivery of the company's PV and BESS project across the C&I and small IPPP markets.
The role will be responsible for planning execution, cost and schedule control, stakeholder and contracts management from initiation to commercial operation.
This role can be based in Stellenbosch or Pretoria.
Responsibilities
- Lead project teams across EPC and commissioning stages
- Manage project execution plans, budget, schedules and risks registers
- Coordinate design reviews and procurement
- Develop detailed project schedules and critical path analyses using recognized project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera)
- Track, forecast, and control project costs and cash flow to ensure profitability and financial compliance
- Conduct regular progress reviews, cost‑to‑complete assessments, and variance analyses
- Manage change control processes, including scope adjustments and cost/time claims
- Administer EPC and subcontractor contracts, ensuring compliance with commercial terms and project deliverables
- Act as point of contact with client, consultants and key stakeholders
- Oversee site mobilisation, construction progress, and QA / QC processes
- Support testing, commissioning, and performance verification to achieve COD and handover
- Maintain accurate reporting on schedule, cost, risks, and progress for internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct lessons‑learned sessions and contribute to continuous improvement across the Projects Division
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification is a must
- Postgraduate qualification or certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) advantageous
- 5–12 years' experience managing medium‑to‑large EPC projects, ideally in renewable energy, power systems, or industrial construction
- Experience with project managing EPC or EPCM projects within the renewable energy or power industries
- Knowledge of cost control, scheduling, contract admin (FIDIC or NEC)
- Understanding of PV, BESS and hybrid system project lifecycles from design to operation
- Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera and MS Excel
- Solid grounding in construction methodologies, QA / QC, and OHS compliance
- Strong financial and contractual literacy, including cost tracking and claims management
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites
