Senior Project Manager (Information Technology)
An exciting career opportunity exists within the Technology Services Division for an experienced Senior Project Manager (IT). The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software development, followed by a successful transition into project management. The role is ideally Cape Town based.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Develop comprehensive project plans covering scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, resources, and budget.
- Lead project teams to execute plans efficiently, ensuring milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Monitor and report on progress, proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including clients, team members, and vendors.
- Communicate project updates, risks, and issues clearly and promptly.
- Manage stakeholder expectations to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Resource Management
- Allocate and coordinate resources effectively across project tasks.
- Collaborate with department managers to assign suitable team members.
- Resolve resource conflicts and other issues impacting project delivery.
Risk Management
- Identify potential risks and develop robust mitigation strategies.
- Continuously monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure deliverables meet required standards and client expectations.
- Implement QA processes to validate project outcomes and maintain quality consistency.
Budget Management
- Develop and manage project budgets, tracking all expenditures to ensure cost control.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process efficiency improvements.
Team Leadership
- Provide guidance and mentorship to project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Motivate team members to achieve project goals and overcome challenges.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance delivery effectiveness.Conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned for future initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant IT Degree or Diploma.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in IT, with at least 5 years in software development.
- In-depth understanding of system development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
- Experience within the Financial Services or Insurance sector advantageous.
- Proven ability to engage stakeholders across multiple divisions, both onshore and offshore.
- Practical experience with Agile methodologies, preferably Scrum.
- Proficiency in JIRA and Confluence.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong grasp of Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficient in MS Office and project management tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Solid financial and business acumen.
- Skilled in facilitation, influencing, and stakeholder management.
- Understanding of architectural considerations and their impact on project planning and decisions.
