Job summary

Marvel Placement Consultants is seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary projects from concept through commissioning. You will provide technical leadership, review designs and manage interfaces across mechanical, electrical, civil and process disciplines.

The role emphasises strong project controls, cost and schedule management, and stakeholder engagement within mining or heavy industries. A South African driver’s license and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical or related engineering preferred
• 10+ years of relevant engineering and project experience in mining, minerals processing or heavy industry
• Experience in project engineering, engineering management and multidisciplinary project execution
• PMP or equivalent qualification is advantageous
• ECSA Professional Engineer registration is advantageous
• Experience overseeing design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering and construction packages
• Strong understanding of scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk and deliverables
• Experience reviewing engineering designs, specs and contractor proposals
• Experience in brownfield and/or greenfield environments
• Knowledge of interfaces between mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and process disciplines
• Experience with EPCM, project services, mining or owner teams
• Experience in mining, minerals processing, coal, iron ore or heavy industry sectors advantageous
• Experience with project controls, procurement, cost management and reporting
• Ability to manage engineering and construction contractors and service providers
• Knowledge of engineering standards, legislation, safety and best practices
• PMP or equivalent qualification advantageous
• Management or leadership development qualification advantageous
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong analytical, technical, leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Valid South African driver's licence
• Willingness to travel to project sites

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering activities across multidisciplinary projects from concept to commissioning
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams and ensure deliverables meet requirements
• Review engineering designs, specs, reports and calculations
• Ensure practical, safe engineering solutions aligned with standards
• Coordinate interfaces between disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, process)
• Contribute to project planning, execution strategies and constructability reviews
• Identify risks and mitigation measures for design or execution issues
• Support technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle
• Manage engineering activities within approved scope, budget and schedule
• Lead inputs during planning, procurement, construction and commissioning
• Coordinate resources, contractors and consultants
• Monitor progress against milestones and address delays or constraints
• Review supplier proposals and provide technical recommendations
• Support procurement via technical specs and evaluations
• Monitor performance of engineering and construction packages
• Participate in project reviews, meetings and stakeholder engagements
• Ensure coordination between engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning teams
• Provide input to budgets and cost estimates and monitor performance against scope and quality requirements
• Identify deviations and support corrective actions
• Maintain engineering documentation and project controls
• Contribute to client reporting and management reviews
• Ensure safety, quality, compliance and governance across activities
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with legislation and standards
• Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement
