Job summary

Mediclinic George is seeking a Senior Professional Nurse to support the Unit Manager by coordinating care, delivering direct patient care, and mentoring students and junior staff on the unit.

The role focuses on clinical quality, patient safety, optimal staffing, and efficient unit operations within a hospital setting in George, Western Cape. A professional nursing qualification and relevant postgraduate credentials are required.

Qualifications

• Essential education: Professional Nurse qualification; Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit.
• Essential minimum experience: 3 years Professional Nurse experience in a hospital; 1 year mentor experience.
• Knowledge of pharmacology, nursing processes, infection prevention and control; ACLS/ATLS/PALS trained.
• Ability to develop/modify a nursing care plan and understand scope of practice for nurse practitioners.

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting set clinical quality standards.
• Manage the client experience.
• Ensure optimal supply, retention, and utilisation of staffing resources.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further provide direct patient care, as well as mentorship to new and student nurses in the unit.
