Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Engineer specialized in hydrometallurgy to lead optimization of hydrometallurgical circuits in Sandton, Gauteng. The role involves design, simulations, pilot programs, and cross-functional collaboration across mining operations, with hybrid office travel as needed.

The ideal candidate has a PhD or MSc in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy with 8+ years in mining hydrometallurgy, including leaching, SX/IX, and EW.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in process engineering with hydrometallurgy in mining.

Responsibilities

• Lead process design, development, and optimization for hydrometallurgical circuits.
• Troubleshoot complex process issues and implement solutions to improve efficiency and product quality.
• Conduct process simulations, mass and energy balances, and equipment sizing for new projects and plant expansions.
• Develop and execute pilot plant programs and laboratory test work plans.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, process manuals, and PFDs/P&IDs.
• Collaborate with project management, operations, and R&D teams for project execution and tech transfer.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations in mining.

Requirements

• Proven expertise in various hydrometallurgical techniques (e.g., leaching, SX, IX, EW).
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., HSC Chemistry, METSIM, Aspen Plus).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in managing projects and leading technical teams.
• Familiarity with international mining standards and best practices.
