Job description

The primary purpose of the role is to provide leadership and develop / deploy their Policy Deployment actions across the site, achieving optimum team and production performance.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Senior Process Engineer will understand the strategic objectives for the plant (through the Policy Deployment process), and translate this into a clearly defined Department action plan.

The role will be accountable for the delivery of that action plan on a short- to medium-term time line.

In addition, the Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for the development of the Department team, actively encouraging through their own behaviour, an environment where people act safely and develop to their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and manage cost effective product formulations that positively contribute to our raw material and packaging (RMP) costs.
  • Continuously evaluate various raw materials that can be incorporated into the product formulations, with the aim to achieve a cost-benefit for the organisation.
  • Improve product performance based on market feedback, ensuring that customers expressed needs are met.
  • Ensure consistent product performance in order to maintain good levels of customer satisfaction and trust when purchasing products.
  • Ensure compliance to WCM TPQC Step Zero and related QMS systems.
  • Ensure that the quality management system conforms to the requirements of ISO.
  • Ensure that processes are delivering their intended outputs as defined in the QMS.
  • Report on the performance of the QMS and on opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure the promotion on customer focus throughout the organization.
  • Ensure that the integrity of the QMS is maintained when changes to the QMS are planned and implemented.
  • Sustain and improve on the plant Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) whilst promoting adherence to control and specification adherence.
  • Ensure product conformance towards national standards (SANS).
  • Work closely with the marketing and sales functions to contribute to effective new product development that anticipates and satisfies the needs of the market.
  • Lead projects to reduce RMP, align formulations and systems and support their implementation in cooperation with the purchasing and industrial teams.
  • Ensure a high quality and safety environment and that health standards are met, all while keeping costs to a minimum.
Job Experience & Skills Required
  • Bachelors Degree (BEng or equivalent) Chemical Engineering (essential).
  • Quality control / management qualification (advantageous).
  • At least minimum 5 years experience in a chemical / process / quality engineering position within a relevant industry.
  • Past quality management experience or exposure is required.
  • Past project management experience will be beneficial.
  • Past WCM / Lean Six Sigma experience will be beneficial.
  • The candidate must be able to apply their technical knowledge and analytical thinking abilities to the projects they are involved in, to analyse and interpret the results obtained to solve problems and implement solutions to technical problems.
  • The candidate must be efficient in brainstorming and troubleshooting and work well in a team.
  • The candidate should be able to self-manage in order to take initiative and run projects to completion.
  • Good oral communication skills in order to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of the organization and to explain complex techniques to interested parties.
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Visio and Python experience advantageous).
