Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and design high-voltage (HV) power transmission and distribution infrastructure (kV–kV).
- Manage multiple projects and provide guidance in developing engineering deliverables for overhead powerline projects, including layouts, drawings, component selection, equipment specifications, and construction documentation.
- Perform electrical calculations, modeling, and power system studies for utility and industrial / commercial transmission and distribution systems.
- Conduct line route selection and PLSCADD-based overhead powerline designs, including tower spotting.
- Develop project design documentation, technical specifications, and detailed design packages in compliance with local, international, and client standards.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure overall design alignment.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, drafters, and designers.
- Monitor design schedules and provide regular progress updates to project managers and business unit principals.
- Review and coordinate technical contract documents and contractor design submissions.
- Uphold Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards by following company policies and Safety Management Systems.
- Identify, analyze, and implement design changes as required.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) activities.
- Provide engineering support during construction and respond to technical queries from contractors.
- Plan and coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings.
- Manage final documentation handover processes.
- Prepare Expressions of Interest (EOIs), tenders, and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
- Support business development and company marketing initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and contribute to continuous process improvement.

- Detailed knowledge of overhead powerline component design and related structural and civil requirements.
- Strong project administration, coordination, and team management skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and teamwork capabilities.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Expertise in PLSCADD software.
- Familiarity with national and international engineering codes and standards.
- Well-developed interpersonal, leadership, and self-management skills.
- Proficient in presentation and technical report writing.
- Experience in the power utility industry.
- Valid South African driver's licence (no endorsements) with own transportation.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements
Education : BSc Eng or B.Eng with a minimum of 7 years relevant post-qualification technical experience; OR B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years relevant post-qualification technical experience at engineering level.
Professional Registration : Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
Licences
- Valid South African Driver's Licence (no endorsements).
Experience
- 7–10 years post-qualification technical experience in high-voltage (HV) power transmission and distribution infrastructure within the power utility sector. Eskom distribution / transmission experience is advantageous.
