Placements24 is seeking a Senior Pharmaceutical Research Scientist to join a fully remote team within South Africa. You will lead design and execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments to advance drug candidates, interpret complex data, and contribute to strategy and regulatory documentation.

The role requires a Ph.D. with 5–7 years of post‑doctoral or industry experience and collaboration with cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate the efficacy and safety of new drug candidates.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, draw scientifically sound conclusions, and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of research strategies and project plans, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare research reports, manuscripts for publication, and regulatory documents.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, and toxicologists to optimize lead compounds and progress them through the development pipeline.
• Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in pharmaceutical research.
• Mentor junior scientists and provide technical guidance to research associates.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant ethical, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
• Actively participate in virtual team meetings and contribute to a collaborative remote work environment.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related life science discipline.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant post-doctoral or industry experience in pharmaceutical research and drug discovery.
• Demonstrated expertise in a specific therapeutic area (e.g., oncology, immunology, neuroscience) is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in relevant scientific techniques and instrumentation, including but not limited to cell-based assays, protein biochemistry, and small animal models.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery and development processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Experience with data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R) is a plus.
• Must be legally eligible to work in South Africa and comfortable working remotely.
