Job Description
  • Operate electronic access, camera and alarm systems in the control room to designated procedure.
  • Evaluate seriousness of emergency and incident conditions and initiate procedural or emergency acting including contact with relevant personnel.
  • Recommend possible steps for the improvement of security measures including lighting and camera positioning.
  • Initiate camera patrols to carry out visual checks on doors, detectors, cameras, and any other surveillance equipment, to ensure that they are in good working condition, and not a security risk.
  • Report system and equipment faults.
  • Effective administration of control room responsibilities.
  • Complete incident reports and follow-up.
  • Testify on evidence in hearings.
  • Train/Coach section personnel on control room functions and procedures.
  • Briefing of replacement on commencement of shift change (Handing over).
  • Complete and update security logs, gather information through cultivating sources.
  • Evaluate actions and potential security breaches with reference to departmental best practice requirements and mine regulations.
  • Monitor movement of criminal activities within the optimal range of cameras.
  • Monitor adherence to procedure and standards and notify management of deviations.
  • Evidence gathering when an incident has occurred within the designated area of responsibility.
  • Gather and record evidence on incident events through the use of electronic equipment.
  • Notification of incident to supervisor and Protection Services Management.
  • Record suspicious behavior or incidents for review and investigation.
  • Write statements on incident or event conditions.
  • Monitor internal station panic alarms and tests.
  • Monitor alarms in mining and processing areas.
  • Reviews surveillance CCTV cameras to detect possible incidents in low risk and other areas.
  • Comply with Non-disclosure Agreement.
Team Support
  • Support the training of Patrolperson.
  • Maintains facilities, equipment and personal image up to a high standard of presentation.
  • Identify to Supervisor any unexpected problems.
  • Effective two-way communications with team members and visitors.
  • Report or liaise with the Supervisor when task complete.
  • Promote security awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying problems with work practices.
  • Support effective teamwork.
  • Participate in required meetings.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12.
  • Registered with the PSIRA Grade B.
  • Handle and use a Shotgun for Business Purposes.
  • Handle and use a Handgun for Business Purposes.
  • Handle and use a Rifle for Business Purposes.
  • SAPS Firearm competency (Handgun, shotgun and Rifle).
  • Valid driver’s License code C1.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Security environment or equivalent.
  • Experience in Information Gathering/Intelligence.
  • PSIRA Armed responses course.
Technical Knowledge
  • Computer literacy.
  • Counter Industrial Action practical.
  • Applicable SAPS firearm competency.
  • Communications in English (spoken, written and reading).
  • Writing of statements and opening of case dockets.
  • Handling of various emergency situations.
  • Psychometric Assessment for firearm users.
  • No criminal record.
  • Polygraph test.
  • Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
  • Use of Force Procedure.
  • AAP Rules of engagement.
