Job summary

WhatJobs Direct is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (MLOps) to join our AI & Emerging Technologies division in Pretoria, Gauteng. You will design, build, and maintain scalable ML pipelines, automate workflows, and manage infrastructure for experimentation and production deployment.

You will collaborate with data scientists and software engineers, monitor models in production, and ensure secure, cost-efficient ML infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering or machine learning engineering, with a focus on MLOps.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with ML libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Proficiency with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their ML services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Understanding of machine learning concepts and model lifecycle management.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable MLOps pipelines for model development, training, deployment, and monitoring.
• Automate ML workflows including data ingestion, feature engineering, training, validation, and deployment.
• Manage infrastructure for ML experimentation, such as cluster management and distributed training.
• Develop tools to enable collaboration between data scientists and software engineers.
• Monitor production model performance, detect drift, and plan retraining strategies.
• Ensure security, scalability, and cost-efficiency of ML infrastructure.
• Collaborate with data scientists to optimize models for production.
• Stay current with MLOps best practices and emerging tech.
