Bridgena Barnard Personnel Group is assisting a leading diagnostic laboratory in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa, to recruit a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology). You will perform complex tests, oversee QC, and mentor junior staff in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science, MLSPC registration as a Registered Medical Technologist/Scientist, and at least 6 years of microbiology experience, with strong knowledge of infectious diseases

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
• Registration with the MLSPC as a Registered Medical Technologist/Scientist.
• A minimum of 6 years in a clinical microbiology setting.
• Extensive experience with microbiological techniques and instrumentation.
• Strong knowledge of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
• Experience with quality management systems and accreditation standards.

Responsabilités

• Perform a wide range of microbiological tests including cultures, identification, sensitivity testing, and parasitology.
• Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment (PCR, incubators, analyzers).
• Implement and monitor quality assurance programs for accurate test results.
• Interpret results, validate findings, and generate clinician reports.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; participate in staff development.
• Contribute to new diagnostic methods validation and implementation.
• Maintain records of procedures, results, and QC data.
