A leading engineering firm in Gauteng, South Africa, seeks a Lead Engineer - Mechanical to oversee the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical engineering components for water infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and experience guiding teams in ensuring regulatory compliance and system reliability. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing designs, and collaborating with various engineering disciplines. This role is crucial for enhancing municipal water systems.
The Lead Engineer - Mechanical position is responsible for overseeing the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical engineering components for municipal and industrial water infrastructure projects.
As a key member of our team, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our mechanical systems are designed for safety, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term reliability.
Provide Technical Leadership : Guide multidisciplinary teams to ensure that mechanical systems meet project requirements.
Conduct assessments of existing treatment and distribution systems to identify areas for improvement.
Participate in feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and cost-estimating activities.
Support the development of asset management plans and condition assessments.
Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, and equipment proposals for compliance with project requirements.
Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, and project scheduling.
Develop detailed mechanical designs for water treatment facilities, including piping systems, pumps, valves, blowers, chemical feed equipment, and process-related machinery.
Perform engineering calculations for pump sizing, pipe hydraulics, pressure losses, mechanical loads, and equipment performance.
Prepare technical reports and specifications for municipal infrastructure projects.
Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
Ensure designs meet national regulations as well as industry standards.
Support permitting efforts and ensure documentation aligns with regulatory expectations.
Present technical information to internal teams and external stakeholders.
