About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and draughtsmen in the design and development of process plant equipment, including piping systems, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, applying your technical expertise across all project phases and working in accordance with recognised design standards and specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, guide, and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and draughtsmen.
  • Design and oversee the development of mechanical equipment for process plants, including piping systems, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
  • Manage all project phases — from concept and planning through detailed design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Develop and review 3D models and detailed design layouts, including process plant arrangements.
  • Interpret and analyse equipment datasheets, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Solve complex engineering challenges using advanced analysis and simulation tools.
  • Review fabrication packages for pressure equipment and piping systems.
  • Prepare detailed piping and valve specifications and contribute to process equipment datasheets.
  • Review and evaluate vendor drawings and technical documentation for compliance.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to ensure smooth design integration.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mechanical design codes, industry standards, and best practices.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng / BSc).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical design for process plants.
  • Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary design projects.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D.
  • Experience with piping and pressure vessel design tools such as CAEPIPE, CAESAR II, and PV-Elite is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of design codes, including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, SANS 347, EN 13480, and EN 13445.
  • ECSA registration or working toward registration advantageous.
  • Strong technical foundation in mechanical design principles and process plant equipment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
