Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering in South Africa seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical packages on major projects. You will conduct engineering and design activities, own mechanical packages, and ensure design management processes are followed throughout the project lifecycle.

You will work within a vibrant, multi-disciplinary team, coordinating with procurement, quality, planning and controls, and contributing to FATs, SATs, commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities

• Conduct the mechanical engineering and design activities on the project.
• Own mechanical packages.
• Ensure the design management process is being followed on the project by either taking on the role directly or supporting an individual on the project team responsible for this role.
• Account for the commissioning process during the design and engineering development stage.
• Produce pre-qualification packs for design services and RFQs for equipment, and coordinate with procurement and PM.
• Develop and update procurement & design schedule/tracker with project planner, tracking status through submittals and deliveries.
• Develop system trackers, design responsibility matrices, ITPs, FAT/SAT protocols, and commissioning checklists.
• Coordinate FATs and SATs, sign-off local authority submissions, and capture lessons learned with impact indicators.
