Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our East London, Eastern Cape, ZA facility. You will design and develop automotive mechanical components, create detailed 3D CAD models and BOMs, and perform stress/thermal/vibration analyses to ensure robust performance.

Collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, QA and testing teams is essential to deliver high-quality components. Responsibilities include prototype oversight, supplier coordination, and ensuring compliance with IATF

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, focused on automotive components.
• Proficiency in CAD software CATIA/SolidWorks; experience with FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of automotive systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with product development lifecycle in an automotive context.

About the Role

Our client, a key supplier to the automotive industry, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team based in **East London, Eastern Cape, ZA**. This role requires a dedicated professional to design and develop innovative mechanical components for vehicles. You will work within a collaborative environment at our **East London** facility, contributing to the next generation of automotive technology. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in mechanical design principles applied to automotive components and is eager to contribute to a dynamic manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop various automotive mechanical components, such as engine parts, chassis components, or powertrain elements.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using industry-standard software.
• Conduct mechanical analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration simulations, to ensure component performance and durability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, and testing departments.
• Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design specifications and quality standards.
• Oversee prototype development and testing, analyzing results to refine designs.
• Ensure all designs adhere to automotive industry standards (e.g., IATF 16949), safety regulations, and client requirements.
• Identify opportunities for design optimization to improve performance, reduce weight, and lower manufacturing costs.
• Prepare technical documentation, design review presentations, and reports.
• Support manufacturing during the production ramp-up and address any design-related issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on automotive components.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and experience with FEA tools for component analysis.
• Strong understanding of automotive systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with product development lifecycle in an automotive context.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
• Proven ability to manage design tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of automotive testing and validation procedures is a plus.
