Placements24 seeks an experienced Senior Materials Scientist to lead R&D on advanced materials in Benoni. The role focuses on discovery, development, and characterization for various industrial applications, guiding projects and mentoring junior staff.

You will work with engineers and product teams to integrate new materials into products, while producing technical reports, proposals, and publications that push material innovation in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 7+ years hands-on experience in materials research and development.
• Proven expertise in material characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, DSC, mechanical testing).

• Lead research initiatives for development and testing of novel materials.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in materials research and development.
• Proven expertise in material characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, DSC, mechanical testing).
• Experience with polymer science, ceramics, composites, or metals is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of structure-property relationships in materials.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and project management skills.
