Job summary

SA Metal in Cape Town seeks a Machine Shop Manager to lead daily production, ensuring CNC and conventional machines operate efficiently while meeting quality, safety and productivity standards.

The role requires strong technical leadership, programming and setup of Mastercam and Siemens CNC equipment, plus coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders. A trade-tested background and OHSA knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ management experience in manufacturing.
• Minimum 10 years post-trade working experience in a production environment.
• Relevant tertiary qualification and a Trade Test Certificate.
• Working knowledge of OHSA and safety compliance.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; valid driver’s license.
• Proficient in MS Office; able to program Mastercam and G-Codes.
• Experience with material characterization and CNC setups.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and workflow of the machine shop.
• Plan and schedule shop jobs; coordinate team activities to meet targets.
• Ensure output meets quality tolerances and timelines.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for shop processes.
• Use CMMS to plan, track tasks and raise work requests.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and tooling support.
• Program and support CNC milling/turning with Mastercam.
• Set up Siemens CNC machines and train team members.
• Monitor productivity, attendance, and overtime planning.
• Manage tooling selection and inventory; monitor tool life.
• Ensure preventive maintenance and safety compliance.
