Job summary

Transnet Freight Rail is seeking a Senior Engineer to provide engineering expertise for locomotive data systems, including front/back-end software development and data maintenance. You will design data transmission protocols, migrate to microservices, and support predictive maintenance while ensuring cyber security and governance.

The role requires full-stack skills, knowledge of data analytics, and experience with DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• BSc Eng in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering required.
• Minimum 5 years in railway industry; 3 years in software development advantageous.
• Experience with Java, Angular, Python and web technologies.
• Experience with predictive modelling, AI, ML and data visualisation techniques.
• Experience with TCP/IP or UDP/IP data communication protocols.

Responsibilities

• Develop locomotive data systems strategy and microservices migration plan.
• Develop software for data collection, monitoring, dashboards and alerts.
• Conduct data governance and cyber security improvements.
• Analyse existing codebase and maintain version control and CI/CD pipelines.
