General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for Senior Life Underwriter in our Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.

Key Responsibilities

This is a challenging and rewarding role which includes a broad range of tasks, including:

• Providing technical underwriting advice and support to Gen Re clients
• Evaluating life insurance products in relation to best risk management practices
• Assimilation of a variety of information and the ability to distil, synopsis, conclude, and communicate a well thought
• through decision, bearing in mind the variety of company product rules and Gen Re governance
• Delivering of presentations and training
• Marketing activities, including giving presentations at conferences and writing articles
• Participating in international projects

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for top applicants who are seasoned underwriters, with a qualification in health or allied health sciences, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Applicants should also have significant experience in resolving complex and unique underwriting queries.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years’ underwriting experience
• South African product knowledge - Life, disability, and critical illness insurance
• Previous education and training experience within the life insurance industry
• Ability to provide underwriting assessments on a range of life insurance products
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills utilized for decision‑making
• Strong attention to detail
• Capacity to work effectively in a team environment
