Overview

Senior Lecturer (Postgraduate Programmes Convenor) – Medical Specialist, Permanent, full‑time, Division of Family Medicine, Department of Family, Community and Emergency Care.

This senior lecturer post (academic clinical pay line; medical specialist in family medicine) will strengthen our team and provide a suitable candidate with an opportunity to pursue a full‑time scholarly role in family medicine and primary care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and clinical leadership and management within the Division of Family Medicine.
  • Serve as convenor for postgraduate programmes, overseeing the MMed and Postgraduate Diploma.
  • Ensure quality assurance, risk management and adherence to academic governance processes.
  • Facilitate connections between the Division, Department, Faculty and external stakeholders.
  • Directly and indirectly supervise registrars on the clinical platform.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Registered and in good standing with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner and Medical Specialist (Family Medicine).
  • MBChB with a postgraduate qualification in family medicine – Master’s degree (MMed, MPraxMed, MFamMed) and FCFP(SA).
  • Five years of post‑community service in diagnostic clinical practice (primary care level) in the public or private healthcare sectors.
  • Two years of clinical teaching, learning and supervision experience with postgraduate students.
  • Familiarity with the South African healthcare system.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; organisational, planning and effective time‑management skills.
  • Computer skills related to Microsoft Office.
  • Access to own transport to visit clinical sites and other off‑campus meeting venues.
  • Any formal academic teaching, learning and assessment experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate students at a higher education institution is advantageous.
  • A postgraduate qualification in health sciences education is advantageous.
  • Experience in research and postgraduate research supervision.
  • Experience in participating in and leading community‑oriented primary care projects in partnership with community stakeholders.
