Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas: The Faculty of Dentistry is a world‑class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching and training on the clinical platform
  • Clinical teaching of undergraduate students
  • Under‑ and post‑graduate supervision
  • Active participation in research and publications
  • Administrative duties related to the post
  • Rendering services to patients at all platforms serviced by the Faculty of Dentistry
  • Participation in Community Engagement activities
Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Oral Health degree
  • A Masters degree in the field of health sciences or education, relevant to Oral Hygiene
  • A minimum of 5 years' teaching experience in a Higher Education Institution
  • Being currently attached to a training institution in a full or part‑time capacity and involved in teaching and clinical supervision of undergraduate oral hygiene students
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • HPCSC registration should include independent practice and the full Oral Hygiene scope of practice as per the Government Gazette, 17th September
Recommendations
  • Academic level commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Post‑graduate qualification in education
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Keen interest in teaching and learning, research and administration
  • Experience in research supervision
  • Publications in the field of Oral Hygiene
  • PhD relevant to the field of health sciences or education relevant to oral hygiene (strong recommendation)
  • Proficiency in treatment and management of oral diseases in line with latest scope of practice of the Oral Hygienist
  • Knowledge of recent trends in patient management
  • Ability to work in a team, good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
