Job Purpose: The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research, engagement, and leadership in the Cape Town Hotel School (CTHS).
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Senior Lecturer Requirements
- A PhD in Hospitality or any hospitality related field.
- An underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
- At least four (4) years full‑time relevant lecturing experience in the higher education environment.
- A track record in postgraduate supervision.
- Evidence of research output in DHET accredited journals.
Recommended
- Evidence of appropriate academic and research leadership.
- Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (face‑to‑face and online learning).
Lecturer Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Hospitality or any hospitality related field.
- An underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
- At least two (2) years full‑time lecturing experience in a higher education environment.
Recommended
- Progress towards or intention to undertake a PhD and an underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
- Research and supervision experience.
- A track record of research output in accredited journals.
- Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (F2F and online learning).
- At least one year’s experience in the hospitality industry.
- A sound knowledge of the theory and application of the hospitality discipline.
- An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education.
- Use of blended learning.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Learning and Teaching
- Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Hospitality.
- Lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in any Hospitality related subject as allocated by the line manager.
- Participate and contribute to curriculum development, academic development initiatives, courseware development and assessment.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
- Participate in Programme Review.
Research
- Supervise postgraduate and undergraduate student research projects.
- Maximise research opportunities for the Department and the Faculty.
- Research and the production of accredited research outputs.
- Conference attendance and presentation.
Community Engagement
- Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/profession and the community.
- Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into the curriculum.
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co‑operative education, new techniques, technologies and research projects.
Leadership and Academic Administration
- Provide leadership at the module level.
- Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadership in the Department.
- Contribute towards development of sound knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
- Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
- An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a tutor or mentor.
