Job Purpose: The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research, engagement, and leadership in the Cape Town Hotel School (CTHS).

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Senior Lecturer Requirements
  • A PhD in Hospitality or any hospitality related field.
  • An underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
  • At least four (4) years full‑time relevant lecturing experience in the higher education environment.
  • A track record in postgraduate supervision.
  • Evidence of research output in DHET accredited journals.
Recommended
  • Evidence of appropriate academic and research leadership.
  • Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (face‑to‑face and online learning).
Lecturer Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Hospitality or any hospitality related field.
  • An underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
  • At least two (2) years full‑time lecturing experience in a higher education environment.
Recommended
  • Progress towards or intention to undertake a PhD and an underpinning qualification in Hospitality or any hospitality related qualification.
  • Research and supervision experience.
  • A track record of research output in accredited journals.
  • Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (F2F and online learning).
  • At least one year’s experience in the hospitality industry.
  • A sound knowledge of the theory and application of the hospitality discipline.
  • An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education.
  • Use of blended learning.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Learning and Teaching
  • Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Hospitality.
  • Lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in any Hospitality related subject as allocated by the line manager.
  • Participate and contribute to curriculum development, academic development initiatives, courseware development and assessment.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
  • Participate in Programme Review.
Research
  • Supervise postgraduate and undergraduate student research projects.
  • Maximise research opportunities for the Department and the Faculty.
  • Research and the production of accredited research outputs.
  • Conference attendance and presentation.
Community Engagement
  • Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/profession and the community.
  • Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into the curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co‑operative education, new techniques, technologies and research projects.
Leadership and Academic Administration
  • Provide leadership at the module level.
  • Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadership in the Department.
  • Contribute towards development of sound knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
  • Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a tutor or mentor.
