University of Pretoria – Lecturer / Senior Lecturer, Poultry Health and Production – Department of Production Animal Studies, Gauteng (Permanent Full Time)
Responsibilities
- Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in flock health and production.
- Recruit additional clientele to fulfil the mandate.
- Provide clinical and flock health services to surrounding communities and various poultry operations.
- Postgraduate training, including recruitment and supervision of PG students.
- Conduct research and publish in scientific journals.
- Network with relevant industry stakeholders.
- Engage in community activities and support student activities.
- Perform administrative duties and commission as delegated by the Head of Department.
- Carry out academic self‑development.
Minimum Requirements
- BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification; must be registered or willing to register in…; MSc degree in poultry health and production or veterinary science (with relevant production animal focus); registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC); minimum of three years of veterinary clinical experience predominantly in poultry health and production (case log required); evidence of continued professional development or education.
- BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification; appropriate MMedVet‑degree and/or equivalent speciality board certification in Poultry Health (e.g., MMedVet Aves) and must be eligible for immediate registration with the SAVC as a specialist; over five years of veterinary clinical experience with at least two years in the poultry industry (case log required); at least one full peer‑reviewed paper as senior or co‑author.
- BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification; registration with the SAVC as a Veterinarian; MSc degree focusing on poultry aspects; over seven years of veterinary clinical experience with at least five years predominantly in poultry industry (case log required); at least five research‑based full papers as senior author and/or co‑author.
Competencies
- Proven veterinary clinical knowledge and competence.
- Skills in herd or population‑level problem investigation, management interventions and consultation.
- Research interest appropriate to the position; commitment to obtain a PhD within a reasonable time if not yet earned.
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word‑processing and spreadsheet software.
Added Advantages and Preferences
- Experience with specialised procedures, techniques and tools, e.g., software.
- Tertiary teaching and mentoring experience.
- Involvement in research in an appropriate field.
Salary Details
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
