Job description
Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer required in Stellenbosch.

The IT Infrastructure Engineer (Tier 3) will have minimum 10+ years of IT support experience overseeing system admin, server support, networking, monitoring.

The position will involve management of the company’s IT infrastructure and system security. Provide support to users to resolve IT related issues and restore normal business processes/services. Be able to assess each IT incident and priorities effectively based on Business impact. Ability to setup basic project plans and execute projects systematically and within agreed timeframes. Strong leadership skills is also a requirement.

The position is office based full time in Stellenbosch during the week. There is no remote or hybrid working conditions. The person must have their own car / valid drivers license & be able to speak Afrikaans & English.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • IT Functions Support:
    • Oversee that IT Support tickets are responded to on a timely basis, and that users are informed on the statuses of their Support ticket.
    • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving identified issues.
    • Identify training requirements for users based on support tickets
  • Disaster Recovery and Failover:
    • Ensure Disaster recovery process/site is in place that will allow uptime in terms of the group’s policies and the DR Plan is tested on a regular basis.
    • Oversee that data backup system is in place and functioning properly.
  • Hardware, Software and VOIP
    • Oversee daily checking of servers, Disk utilisation, Memory and CPU.
    • Oversee that all IT hardware is documented on the IT asset list.
    • Oversee the efficient management of internet links, Servers and telephone system.
    • Oversee efficient management and implementation of IT Software to support productivity within AUL and ensure internal controls are in place.
    • Oversee that the latest anti-virus and other security software is installed on all devices, and monitored on a weekly basis
  • IT Security
    • Ensure all IT Security Policies are implemented on a timely matter on all environments to which data assets are exposed.
    • Review IT Security Policies on a regular basis to ensure it is sufficient to mitigate risks and are in line with latest industry trends.
  • Monitoring
    • Ensure all IT Systems, networks and devices are monitored to identify risks
    • Implement preventative measures and controls to mitigate risks.
    • Formal monthly report to IT Steering Committee
    • Log any risk incidents in the Incident
  • Service Provider Management
    • Management of Service Providers SLA and support agreement
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance
    • Ensure all IT processes comply with internal policies and other legislation
    • Support internal and external audits by providing IT-related evidence.
    • Maintain and review the IT Risk Register and Incident Logs.
    • Ensure adherence to AUL’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) requirements.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify areas for system, software, or process improvement.
    • Explore automation opportunities to streamline manual tasks.
    • Benchmark AUL’s IT infrastructure and services against industry best practice.
    • Make recommendations to the IT Steering Committee.

Minimum Requirements and Skillset for this role:

  • Must have own car / valid driver’s license
  • Must be fluent speaking in Afrikaans & English
  • IT Diploma, Advanced Diploma/Degree, MCSA/MCSE Infrastructure or Cloud, ITIL, CCNA, Microsoft 365 Administration, Microsoft Azure Administration.
  • 10 + years as a Senior IT Technical Specialist, Network Administrator, System Administrator
  • 5 + Years Microsoft 365 administration.
  • 5 + Years Network Infrastructure setup, installation and maintenance, firewall management
  • 5 + VLAN’s and wireless network configuration experience.
  • 5 + Years Cisco Meraki and Mikrotik firewall administration.
  • 5 + Years Mimecast email security administration.
  • 5 + Years Microsoft Server, VMWare, Hyper V and Cloud Management
  • IT Security Management
  • Good understanding of IT related expenses and budgeting.
  • Good understanding of Server setup, Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
  • Good understanding of VMWare, Storage and Cloud Management.
  • Good understanding of Backups and Retention periods.
  • Good understanding of Azure Cloud and Microsoft 365 Management.
  • Good understanding of Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 and Windows 10/11.
  • Good understanding of internet connectivity including express route and redundancy measures.
  • Good understanding of the environment and the potential threats from outside.
  • Up to date understanding and knowledge of security risks, threats and systems available in the market to mitigate these risks.
