Senior Human Resources Manager – Johannesburg North.

A national fuel and retail organisation with over 4,200 employees is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead its people strategy.

This role requires a strong HR leader with extensive labour relations and transformation expertise, capable of aligning HR with business growth while driving cultural change, performance, and compliance.

Salary: R65 000 – R100 000 per month.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic HR Leadership
    • Design and implement a national HR strategy aligned with growth and transformation goals.
    • Act as a strategic advisor to the MD and Exco on people and culture.
    • Lead organisational design and change management to support business expansion.
  • Talent Management & Workforce Planning
    • Oversee national recruitment and selection processes.
    • Drive succession planning, leadership development, and learnerships in collaboration with Training & Development.
    • Develop and implement employee wellness and retention strategies.
  • Employee & Industrial Relations
    • Ensure compliance with labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EE, SDA).
    • Manage unions, collective bargaining, and dispute resolution.
    • Promote a workplace culture of fairness, transparency, and performance.
  • Performance & Reward
    • Manage performance management systems across the group.
    • Oversee remuneration, incentives, and employee benefits strategies.
    • Ensure payroll compliance and integration with HR operations.
  • HR Operations & Compliance
    • Implement efficient HR Information Systems (HRIS) and reporting structures.
    • Ensure compliance with Employment Equity and B-BBEE requirements.
    • Draft, update, and enforce HR policies in line with organisational needs.
  • Culture, Transformation & Diversity
    • Drive B-BBEE and Employment Equity initiatives to meet transformation targets.
    • Champion a culture of empowerment, service excellence, and innovation.
    • Enhance internal communication to strengthen employee engagement.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field (postgraduate advantageous).
  • 10–15 years HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role within the fuel / retail / QSR sector (non-negotiable).
  • Proven ability to manage HR across a workforce of 4,000+ employees.
  • Strong expertise in labour relations, B-BBEE, and Employment Equity.
  • ERP / HRIS systems experience and advanced HR reporting capability.
  • Advantageous: experience in petroleum or convenience retail.
