Job summary

A leading FMCG company in Cape Town is seeking a Senior HR Officer to join their HR team. The successful candidate will focus on compliance with labour legislation, manage recruitment and onboarding processes, and facilitate performance management. Ideal candidates will have a relevant HR qualification and at least 4 years of generalist HR experience, with a passion for people processes and providing effective HR support.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of generalist HR experience with extensive exposure to the Skills Development and Recruitment Functions.
  • Experience with CCMA representation advantageous.
  • Knowledge and application of labour legislation, particularly BCEA, LRA and SDA.
  • Experience working within a FMCG or wholesale and retail environment.
  • Excellent understanding of HR processes.

Responsibilities

Job description
Senior HR Officer – Rialto Foods / Cape Town

Reporting to: HR Manager. A great opportunity has become available for a people-focused, energetic, and self-driven individual to join our HR Team.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about HR and people processes and who is highly organised and enjoys operating in a fast-paced environment.

Key Job Functions
  • HR Compliance: Ensure compliance with labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, SDA) and internal HR policies. Ensure company adherence to HR policies and processes. Assist with relevant Ethical Trade Compliance Audits.
  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Manage the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle for a wide variety of roles. Conduct employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure smooth integration of new hires.
  • Performance Management: Facilitate annual and bi-annual performance review processes (e.g., goal setting, mid-year reviews, year-end KPA reviews). Offer guidance to employees on self-assessments and development discussions. Track completion rates of performance reviews and escalate non-compliance.
  • Talent Management: Assist and support the implementation of talent review processes. Collaborate with leadership to ensure Individual Development Plans are in place for key talent and successors.
  • Employee Relations: Promote and maintain constructive labour relations across all sites in Cape Town by facilitating employment matters in a fair, objective, and legally compliant manner. Provide sound ER support to line managers and supervisors. Represent the Company at the CCMA as required. Build and maintain strong working relationships with the unions and/or workplace committee.
  • Skills Development: Responsible for the execution of the Annual Training Plan as well as Discretionary Grants. Implementation and monitoring of learnership, bursaries, internship and skills programmes. Co-ordinate and run the Skills Development Committee Meetings.
  • HR Projects and Reporting: Execute HR improvement projects in line with driving a best practice people approach. Responsible for the smooth running of all HR administration processes and HR input to payroll. Responsible for routine HR reporting, which includes the updates of Dashboards at required timeframes.
  • Culture, Engagement and Employee Wellness: Act as a culture ambassador by fostering an environment of trust, recognition, and purpose through the execution of meaningful programs that reinforce a values-driven, inclusive, and high-performance culture. Monitor employee sentiment and engagement levels, providing insight to improve cultural alignment across all business units. Support the execution of the company's Wellness Calendar by collaborating with internal stakeholders to drive participation and promote physical, emotional, and social well‑being.
Knowledge and Experience Required
  • Must have relevant HR tertiary qualification – Degree or Diploma.
  • 4+ years of generalist HR experience with extensive exposure to the Skills Development and Recruitment Functions.
