V3 Consulting is seeking a senior Geotechnical Engineer in South Africa to lead geological and geotechnical projects, review field investigations, and produce factual and interpretive reports for complex infrastructure works.
You will manage data from core logs, test pits and laboratory results, provide site input during design and construction, and ensure adherence to standards while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
The geotechnical engineer shall be responsible for reviewing the results of the investigations and confirming their acceptance. The geotechnical engineer shall be involved in the planning, procurement and management of the sub-contract and shall be responsible for the acceptance of data collected during the investigation, including, among others, core logs, test pit profiles and laboratory test results, and for the production of a factual geotechnical report. In addition, the geotechnical engineer shall be responsible for preparing an interpretive geotechnical report and a design geotechnical report as required to fulfil the design requirements. The geotechnical engineer shall also be involved during the construction phase in accordance with his/her professional responsibilities and Section C3.7.2(f), Site Visits by Design Specialist(s).
Furthermore, as a minimum, the Design Specialist(s) shall attend the construction of trial sections, including, inter alia, stabilization trials, base construction trials and final surfacing trials. The Design Specialist for structures shall visit the site at least once a month while construction of the new bridge, widening of the existing bridge, and remedial works to existing structures are in progress. During the initial foundation stage of major structures, the founding material, including founding material for piles, for major culverts and bridges shall be inspected by an experienced geotechnical engineer. The geotechnical engineer shall carry out the initial approval of the foundation founding material for all major structures and shall thereafter undertake inspections at least monthly, or more frequently where required by the nature and progress of the Works.
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Postgraduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering would be advantageous.
Professional Registration(s):
Professional registration with ECSA.
Years of Relevant Experience:
At least 10 years’ postgraduate experience in geotechnical engineering.
Preferred Project Experience:
Proven experience working on large, intermediate and small projects across a range of sectors.
