The role focuses on seismic interpretation to identify hydrocarbon reservoirs and guide drilling activities, with oversight of data processing and integration of geophysical data with geological information.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s or PhD in Geophysics or related field, 7+ years of seismic interpretation experience, and proficiency in industry-standard software.

Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Geophysicist to join their exploration team in Randburg . This position is essential for analyzing seismic data to identify potential hydrocarbon reservoirs and guide exploration drilling efforts. You will be responsible for seismic data processing oversight, interpretation, and the integration of geophysical data with geological and engineering information. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation techniques within the Oil & Gas industry of Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to map geological structures, identify stratigraphic traps, and delineate potential hydrocarbon accumulations.
• Oversee seismic data processing workflows to ensure optimal data quality for interpretation.
• Integrate seismic attributes, gravity, magnetic, and well data to build comprehensive subsurface models.
• Perform quantitative seismic interpretation, including Amplitude Variation with Offset (AVO) analysis.
• Collaborate closely with geologists and reservoir engineers to define exploration prospects and assess risks.
• Prepare geophysical reports, presentations, and prospect evaluations for management review in Randburg .

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geophysics, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in seismic data interpretation within the Oil & Gas E&P sector.
• Proficiency with seismic interpretation software packages (e.g., Kingdom Suite, Petrel, GeoGraphix).
• Strong understanding of seismic acquisition, processing, and inversion techniques.
• Experience with attribute analysis, inversion, and attribute-based modeling.
