Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Compose original musical scores for feature films, short films, and documentaries, aligning with the director's vision and the film's narrative.


• Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and music supervisors throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production phases.


• Develop and refine musical themes, motifs, and orchestrations to evoke specific emotions and enhance character development.


• Conduct recording sessions with orchestras, ensembles, or solo musicians as required, ensuring high-quality audio production.


• Manage the music budget effectively, including composer fees, studio time, and musician costs.


• Deliver final master recordings in required formats, meeting all technical specifications.


• Research and integrate diverse musical styles and instrumentation to suit various film genres and historical periods.


• Stay abreast of current trends and innovations in film scoring and music technology.


• Contribute creative ideas during music conceptualization and spotting sessions.


• Maintain clear and consistent communication with all project stakeholders.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience as a film score composer, with a significant portfolio of released projects.


• Demonstrated expertise in composing for various film genres (drama, action, comedy, thriller, etc.) and a versatile understanding of musical styles.


• Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, and familiarity with music notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale).


• Strong understanding of orchestration, music theory, harmony, and counterpoint.


• Excellent collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to interpret and respond to creative feedback.


• Experience in recording studio environments and working with musicians.


• A degree in Music Composition, Film Scoring, or a related field is advantageous.


• Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding project deadlines, often with a hybrid work arrangement.


• Reside within or be willing to commute to George, Western Cape for essential in-person collaborations.
