Job summary

Placements24 in South Africa seeks an experienced Agronomist to advise farmers in the Free State region on crop production, soil management, and integrated pest control. You will analyze soil and crop data to optimize yields and promote sustainable farming practices.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's or Master's in Agronomy or related field, with 5+ years of advisory experience, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel to farms across the province.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as an Agronomist or advisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of crop physiology, soil science, and pest/disease management.
• Experience with farm data analysis and interpretation.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to farm locations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct soil analysis and develop soil fertility management plans.
• Advise farmers on crop selection, planting, and cultivation to maximize yield and quality.
• Identify and diagnose plant diseases, insect infestations, and weed problems; recommend integrated pest management solutions.
• Monitor crop growth and development throughout the season; provide timely interventions.
• Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in agronomy and agricultural technology.
• Assist in the development and implementation of sustainable farming strategies.
