Job description

Tshifcor Investment and Resources is seeking a highly experienced Environmental Scientist / Officer to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in environmental management within the mining sector and possess a strong track record in environmental assessments, compliance reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Compliance and Management
    • Prepare, review, and submit comprehensive environmental compliance reports for mining projects.
    • Ensure all operations meet environmental regulations and standards.
    • Monitor environmental impacts and implement necessary mitigation measures.
  • Site Assessments and Technical Excellence
    • Conduct detailed environmental assessments and audits at various mining sites.
    • Lead the development and execution of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA).
  • Supervision and Team Coordination
    • Supervise and guide junior engineers and environmental scientists, ensuring quality and accuracy in all environmental works and studies.
    • Coordinate project teams, manage deliverables, and ensure technical and procedural excellence in environmental studies and assessments.
    • Solve complex problems using innovative approaches and modifications to standard procedures.
  • Regulatory Liaison and Public Participation
    • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
    • Lead public participation and stakeholder engagement processes, representing the company in interactions with clients and authorities.
  • Client Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships; participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements and defend technical work.
    • Contribute to the development and preparation of bids and proposals, presenting solutions in a professional and technically competent manner.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of environmental data, reports, and compliance documentation.
    • Provide regular updates to management on environmental performance, project progress, and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science, Arts, or Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not required; extensive experience is valued.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in environmental management, with a focus on the mining industry.
  • Registration as a Professional Scientist with SACNASP and Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) with EAPASA in South Africa.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and assessment procedures.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing project teams and guiding junior staff.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to various project sites as required.
