Job summary

Rvc Enterprises in Pretoria is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to lead complex environmental projects, ensure compliance with NEMA and related regulations, and guide teams in EIAs and WULAs.

You will manage stakeholder consultations, prepare EMPrs and audit reports, mentor junior staff, and help grow our environmental consulting capabilities in the South African market. 5–7 years of relevant experience and SACNASP registration are expected.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Environmental Science or related field.
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in SA environmental consulting or mining.
• SACNASP Professional Natural Scientist registration or eligibility.
• Strong knowledge of SA environmental law and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead EIAs, BA, and WULA processes, including public participation and stakeholder engagement.

We are based in Pretoria and are currently looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist. The person will be responsible to manage complex environmental projects, ensure compliance with national legislation like NEMA, and will guide teams in conducting EIAs and WULAs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Project Management & Compliance: Direct large-scale environmental projects, interpret legislation, and ensure adherence to NEMA, MPRDA, and local municipal bylaws.


• Impact Assessments: Lead the execution of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Basic Assessments (BAs), and Water Use License Applications (WULAs).


• Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate public participation processes and manage consultations with regulatory authorities and community stakeholders.


• Reporting & Auditing: Prepare comprehensive Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr), audit reports, and technical risk mitigation strategies.


• Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior environmental scientists

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

• Education: A postgraduate qualification (BSc Hons, MSc, or MPhil) in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Environmental Management.


• Experience: 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, preferably within the South African environmental consulting or mining sector.


• Professional Registration: Active registration or eligibility for registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist (Pr. Sci. Nat.), and ideally registration with EAPASA.


• Skills: Strong knowledge of South African environmental law, excellent technical report writing, and proven business development or client-relations capabilities

Package & Remuneration

Salary: R350000 – R450000 CTC
