Job summary

Qualifications

• Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Emergency Medicine
• Extensive experience in Emergency Departments of regional/tertiary hospitals
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior doctors and students
• Willingness to participate in after-hours and on-call duties

Responsibilities

• Assess, resuscitate and stabilize acutely ill or injured patients in the Emergency Department
• Accept referrals from lower-level facilities and coordinate disposition to appropriate services
• Supervise and train registrars, medical officers, community service doctors and interns
• Participate in clinical research within the ED, hospital and district
• Attend departmental and hospital meetings and complete medicolegal documentation
• Apply National Core Standards and promote high-quality patient care
• Coordinate department activities within a multidisciplinary team
• Engage in stakeholder engagements to enhance emergency care provision
