Job summary

Total Deutschland GmbH seeks a senior tax professional to lead direct tax compliance and reporting across multiple jurisdictions. You will prepare tax returns, manage payments, and ensure accurate tax accounting while supporting audits and transfer pricing policies.

Ideal candidate has 6–8 years in corporate tax, accredited status, and advanced SAP proficiency. Work in a global context with strong analytical and risk management skills.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of SA, Namibian, Botswana and Eswatini Income Tax Acts.
• Advanced SAP proficiency.
• Post-qualification Diploma in Taxation or MCom Taxation advantageous.
• Accreditation with accounting or tax body.
• 6–8 years’ experience in Corporate Tax (tax accounting, tax compliance, tax advice and SARS controversy).
• Knowledge of financial statements; reconciliation skills; risk analysis.
• Proficiency in MS Office, SAP and OneSource Corporate Tax is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of direct tax returns (Income Tax and Withholding Tax) for the group.
• Ensure timely preparation, submission and accounting of tax payments in the general ledger.
• Assist with reconciliation of direct tax accounts, including deferred tax, for year-end accounting and disclosures.
• Prepare monthly current tax, withholding tax and deferred tax calculations; prepare tax journals.
• Perform quarterly reviews of high-risk accounts to determine tax implications.
• Assist with management of the Tax Asset Register for correct tax treatment of assets.
• Assist with annual transfer pricing policy reviews.
• Assist with external, internal and SARS audits relating to direct tax matters.
• Support NBE country finance teams on tax-related matters.
• Assess tax implications of business transactions to optimize tax benefits.
• Initiate, verify and implement changes to tax systems and procedures.
• Gather information for internal and external audits.
• Provide ad hoc tax support and training across the group.
• Keep tax policies updated; stay informed of changes.
• Train the intern assigned to the Tax Department.
• Optimize tax benefits and minimize corporate tax within legislation.
• Comply with HSEQ requirements and raise alerts for non-compliance.
• Maintain confidentiality and manage HSE risks within area.

Direct Tax Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all direct tax returns (Income Tax and Withholding Tax) for the TMSA Group.
• Ensure the timely preparation, submission, and accounting of tax payments to relevant tax authorities in the general ledger.
• Assist with the timely and accurate reconciliation of all direct tax accounts, including deferred tax, for year-end accounting and Annual Financial Statement disclosures.
• Assist with the timely and accurate preparation of monthly current tax, withholding tax, and deferred tax calculations, including the preparation of tax journals for the Group.
• Perform quarterly reviews and analyses of high-risk accounts (e.g., legal fees, consulting fees, overseas travel, donations, repairs and maintenance) to determine tax implications, including the treatment of bad debts.
• Assist with the management of the Tax Asset Register to ensure the correct tax treatment of asset acquisitions, disposals, scrapping, and expensing.
• Assist with the annual review and submission of the TMSA Group's transfer pricing policies.
• Assist with external, internal, and SARS audits relating to direct tax matters within the TMSA Group.
• Support the NBE country finance teams on tax-related matters.
• Assist in assessing the tax implications of business transactions to optimize tax benefits and minimize tax liabilities.
• Initiate, verify, and implement changes to company systems and procedures to ensure practical, efficient, and compliant tax processes.
• Gather and provide information required for internal (including SOX) and external audits.
• Assist the Direct Tax Specialist with ad hoc tax projects.
• Provide ad hoc tax support, training, and guidance across the Group.
• Assist in ensuring that all tax policies and procedures are clearly documented and updated timeously.
• Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations.
• Train and support the intern assigned to the Tax Department.
• Assist in optimizing tax benefits and minimizing corporate tax obligations within the framework of applicable tax legislation.
• Comply with all HSEQ requirements and raise alerts when non-compliance or contraventions are identified.
• Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
• Effectively manage and minimize HSE risks within the area of responsibility by ensuring:

Required Knowledge & Systems

• Accreditation with accounting or tax body.
• A minimum of 6 - 8 years’ experience in Corporate Tax (Tax accounting, tax compliance, tax advice and SARS Controversy).
• Proven knowledge of financial statements; reconciliation skills; strong financial information analysis and risk identification.
