Deviare is hiring two Senior Developers for a Centurion, Gauteng team. You will design, build and maintain back-end Windows-based systems using C# and C++, with .NET Core transition while supported by a strong API and message-driven architecture.

Expect to own complex features, optimise multi-threaded solutions and influence code quality. On-site work is preferred in Centurion, with remote consideration for suitable candidates; start date is immediate.

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking two experienced Senior Developers to join a client’s Back Office Development Team in permanent, full-time roles. Each Senior Developer designs, builds and maintains back-end systems for Windows-based applications written in C# (.NET Core and .NET Framework) and C++. They deliver complex features independently and help raise engineering standards across the team. The positions are based at the client’s office in Centurion, Gauteng. On-site work is preferred, but remote work can be considered for the right candidate. The start date is immediate.

Context & Impact

The Back Office team runs the systems behind the client’s core operations. The work is mostly back-end with very little UI. It covers multi-threaded Windows Services, service-oriented and microservice architectures, and Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Senior Developers take features from requirements through to production. They contribute to architecture decisions and resolve production and performance issues. The team is also maintaining legacy .NET Framework code while moving it to .NET Core, so the roles need people who are comfortable with both. Working closely with the Lead Developer and the Team Lead, these developers have a direct effect on the stability, performance and quality of the platform.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of commercial software development experience, mainly on the back end. They have hands-on experience delivering back-end systems on Windows using both C# and C++, and a track record of working independently on complex features within a team.

Core strengths include:

• Strong .NET Core experience; exposure to .NET Framework is strongly preferred
• Recent commercial C++ development on Windows (C++14 or higher preferred)
• Proven experience designing and building service-oriented and microservice solutions
• Deep experience with multi-threading and parallel processing
• Solid Microsoft SQL Server skills, including tables, stored procedures, functions and query optimisation

Experience with RabbitMQ, REST/SOAP API design or C++ on Linux is an advantage. Unit testing frameworks (xUnit/nUnit), TFS/Git tooling and Agile practices can be learnt on the job.

The right person takes ownership of their work and writes clean, testable and maintainable code. They take an analytical approach to performance, concurrency and data issues. They work well with the Lead Developer, their peers and the Team Lead, and they support intermediate developers through code review and knowledge sharing. A degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or a related field is preferred, but equivalent practical experience is also considered.
