About the Role
Our client is looking for a highly experienced Senior Data Privacy Lawyer to lead their privacy compliance efforts from a fully remote position. This critical role involves developing and implementing robust data protection strategies to ensure compliance with POPIA and other relevant global regulations. You will be the primary point of contact for all privacy-related legal matters, working proactively to safeguard sensitive data and build trust with customers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with deep expertise in data privacy law, capable of managing complex legal frameworks and advising stakeholders across the organization in a virtual setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures across the organization.
- Advise on compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and other applicable data protection laws.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and advise on mitigating privacy risks.
- Manage data breach incidents, including notification procedures and regulatory liaison.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on data privacy best practices.
Requirements
- Admitted to practice law with a minimum of 7 years of experience, with a significant focus on Data Privacy Law.
- In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other international privacy regulations.
- Experience in developing and implementing privacy programs and policies.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex legal requirements.
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
